Tanren City is the town located in the region Tanren. It is comprised of five portions: The Tanren City Plaza, North Gate, West Gate, South Gate, and East Gate.
- Well, this is it - Tanren City!
- A lot more cool and stylish than a drab place like Grassroot Town. Wouldn't ya say? Kya kya!
- [Player Name]: .....
- Wait, ya say you come from Grassroot Town?
- Eh, I didn't mean to offend ya or anything. It's a fine place and all, but much too small 'n boring for my delicate tastes. Kya kya!
- Here in Tanren City, we have Pokémon of all different sorts.
- We got the explorin' types who like to train up North, the archeologists who study Tanren's vast history... and everything in between!
- Pretty cool stuff, eh? It's like a giant berry garden full of fresh 'n exotic fruits! Not that the townfolks here are edible or anything - that'd just weird! Kya kya kya!
- Anyway, I'm sure you'd be best off eplorin' the place for yourself.
- As for myself, I got a reputation to keep. I'll be hangin' near my post south of here if ya ever wanna chill with the coolest Psyduck in Tanren City.
- And why wouldn't ya? Kya kya!
- See ya later, [Player Name]... and don't forget to watch your step. The shrubbery tends to get angry if stepped on too much.
- Kya kya kya! Only kiddin' with ya!
- Peculiar Pat is out! Stay cool, [Player Name] of Grassroot Town, Kya! ~

The category of the move taught depends on the color of the shard used.
Oldbark Retirement Center[]
The retirement center is below the Chimecho Assembly. It has the caretaker as well as a few old explorers. From what the caretaker says, apparently the Slowbro the player meets on their way to Tanren was from the retirement center but wandered off, and is not seen here. The retirement center's beds also heal HP and PP like an inn, but it is not a spawn point.

- Pyroar: ...
- Pyroar: So, with Tanren Mines out of the way, we can finally resume our plan.
- Pyroar: Supposedly, that "hidden route" must be here somewhere...
- Salazzle: Heh! We'll just have to check out all of the ornaments here, perhaps there'll be a hidden swith or something nifty!
- Pyroar: Just be careful... don't attract the attention of anyone here!
- Salazzle: Right... Let's go ahead. I trust your judgment.
- Receptionist: What was that ruckus just now...?

Archaeological Dig[]
The Archaeological Dig is another room in the Tanren Museum, found going out to the left of the museum's main room and nextdoor.

When a player goes past the vase they'll find themselves in the map that leads to the Tanren Undercity. The player will need to use Rock Climb and have beaten Tanren Mines.
- (You hear two Pokémon talking somewhere in the room...)
- Pyroar: This must be it! I've checked everything here...
- Salazzle: Heh heh! You're right! Let's try forcing our way in!
- Pyroar: One two...
- Pyroar: Ha! That did it!
- Salazzle: Let's quickly slither out way in... Before that foolish Marowak notices.
- Pyroar: We're going to be rich!
Trivia[]
- Items cannot be dropped in the Tanren Exploration Site because there are 30 inaccessible hidden items in it.
- Anise's name was previously Cheryl.
- The Pineco NPC Hermes might draw its name from incorrect depictions of the caduceus (staff associated with the classical Greek deity) showing it topped by a pinecone. This might be due to the thyrsus (token of Dionysus) getting confused with the caduceus.
