Shiny Pokémon, often called shinies, are alternate colorations of Pokémon. Shiny Pokémon are a feature that existed starting in PMU 6, and to staff in early PMU 7. They were discontinued, and then re-added to PMU 7 on the 19th of September in 2019. Using a Legendary/Mythical cosmetic item on a shiny Pokémon will in turn make the disguise appear shiny as well.
Obtainment[]
In PMU 6 select wild Pokémon had a chance of being shiny. Shiny Pokémon were most commonly available to players during Holiday Cave and other events.
In PMU 7, shinies were first available during the Anniversary Holiday Cave of 2019, with shiny rates for recruitable Pokémon added in other dungeons over time. As of now, Pokémon of all available Generations (Gen 1-8) can be shiny and Pokémon hatched from Mystery Eggs have a chance to be hatched shiny. The shiny rate of a recruitable Pokémon is determined on its rarity and the difficulty of the dungeon. Pokémon in the overworld that can be recruited can also spawn shiny, but are rarest to come across.
Shiny Pokémon while visibly different also have an asterisk (*) to the right of their name, excluding the name that displays above the sprite. If a shiny Pokémon is on a floor or has spawned, a sound effect (magic838.ogg) will play across the entire map. A player can also turn their active Pokémon shiny with use of a Sparkle Token, a single-use item that was first available in the shop of 2019's Anniversary Holiday Cave, and sold during auctions. Sparkle Tokens work on every Pokémon available in the game.
