This is a list of commonly-used terminology in Pokémon Mystery Universe, meant to help readers easily find the meaning of, or article with more information on a commonly-used phrase, word, etc. used by players in the game, that might be hard to find on the wiki otherwise.
Dungeons[]
Abbreviations for dungeons can be found at Dungeons#List of Dungeons.
Items[]
Certain items have common abbreviations.
- FB
- GM
- MC
- WC
Wonder Chest (not to be confused with the other WC abbreviation)
- T-Specs
- Gift
Family Items[]
Family items (also known as exclusive or swap items) are items that exist for every Pokémon family. While all Pokémon have a 3-star family item, not all have 1- and 2-star family items obtained from boxes.
End Boxes[]
"End boxes" refer to boxes found at the end—or, "end room", of a dungeon.
Relog[]
The act of logging out and back in by closing the game, thus "re-logging" back in.
WC[]
"Wrong chat/channel". Due to the apostrophe's (') function of sending a message to the Global channel if it's put at the beginning of it, players often send messages to that channel by mistake.
Yaap[]
"You are already playing", referring to the error message that occurs when trying to log into a character that is already logged in the game. The error itself can often happen due to being improperly disconnected from the game like through a crash or poor internet connection.
Desync[]
Desync is when your position gets "de-synchronized" in the game; showing Pokémon or your own somewhere slightly different than actually registered in the server. This happens while moving if certain map changes occur (such as weather being changed while already on a floor), your Pokémon's state gets altered (such as having its held item de-equipped, using a two-turn move like Dig, changing forms, etc.), or switching Pokémon.
Turn[]
PMU is real-time, so a turn is recognized as making any action other than moving, switching Pokémon, or equipping or picking up items. In other words, taking a "turn" refers to attacking, throwing an item or using certain items (ones which their effects are made from a move such as some Orbs and medicine). Moves and status conditions often have effects that depend on taking turns.
Ghost[]
Not referring to the type, a "ghost" or "player ghost" is when a player's sprite and name is seen on a map but the player is not actually there. The technical cause is unknown but the gist of it is when an actual player is seen on a map and the user leaves that map, the sprite remains until the user is on the same map as that player again. A player ghost can easily be identified by clicking it as clicking a player normally displays a message.
Refresh[]
Can refer to one of two things:
- The move, which is widely used as it cures status conditions.
- The act of refreshing a map for the user's client, via the
/refresh
command, or using .
Party and Team[]
While the words "party" and "team" are often used interchangeably by players, party refers to the party mechanic and members in it, while team refers to the player's personal team of four Pokémon.
Town[]
Although there are many towns, "town" is often referring to Grassroot Town, the town that most players are seen in due to being the first one encountered in the game.
HC[]
- Main article: Holiday Cave
Holiday Cave, referring to the event dungeons. There is no one dungeon called "Holiday Cave", but a dungeon that releases temporarily for a holiday or special occasion is a Holiday Cave.
MH[]
Mapping[]
The act of making out a map using the in-game map editor. Players can use the editor in their own house.
Guild Timer[]
The "guild timer" is an interval wherein players in your guild may no longer get to your instance of a dungeon floor. It's been estimated to be about 15 minutes once a player has initially entered a dungeon floor.
Spawn[]
Where the player ends up after completing, escaping from, or giving up in a dungeon. There are several rest stops where the player can set their spawn.
Map Name[]
- Main article: Moral
Refers to the (color of the) name of the map at the top of the game screen. It indicates some properties or restrictions of the map.
Glide[]
- Main article: Moves § Variables
Whether or not a move lets the player keep moving after its use, rather than stopping movement.
Hitstun[]
When hit by a move, it induces a short period where the hit Pokémon's turns are suppressed. It's believed that the speed of Pokémon determines how easily they experience hitstun.
Family Item Houses[]
Houses made by players with the sole purpose of leaving family items in for other players to take.[1]
SR[]
C9[]
Shiny Sound[]
magic838.ogg in the game's directory (\Pokemon Mystery Universe\Client\SFX
) is the sound effect that plays when a shiny Pokémon spawns in a dungeon. Players sometimes overwrite the file with their own sound.
Room Directions[]
"br", "bl", "tr", "tl", "mid", "mr" and "ml" stand for "bottom right", "top right", "middle", "middle right" and so on. Players use these to quickly communicate the direction of a room something is in, usually the stairs on a dungeon floor.
